Update #7 - GR86 / BRZ High-Capacity Oil Pan: Production Casting, Fitment, and Feature Update

We have received the first production castings of our high-capacity oil pan for the FA24 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ. These pans are now moving through quality inspection, minor manufacturing review, baffle assembly, and fulfillment. Units that pass inspection will be shipped as they become available, while any parts requiring correction are being addressed with our vendor before the rest of the batch is completed.

Recent fitment work also added several updates to the compatibility list. During our California trip, we collected additional 3D scans from customer and partner vehicles. The FT86 SpeedFactory unequal-length catted header and the Apexi Super Exhaust Manifold do not fit with the current high-capacity oil pan design. The Tomei unequal-length V2 header, previously listed as a close fitment, has now been visually confirmed to fit with significant clearance. Perrin engine mounts have also been scanned and confirmed to fit.

The production pan is a cast aluminum oil pan with post-CNC machining. It increases capacity by approximately 1.4 L, or 1.5 qt, over the stock FA24 oil pan. Additional overfill can still be used for more extreme track applications or highly modified vehicles. The pan fits with OEM exhaust headers without trimming the factory heat shields, and we maintain a compatibility matrix for aftermarket headers and engine mount combinations.

The integrated baffle system uses metal trap doors and is assembled into the pan as part of the final build process. The baffle fasteners are torqued and installed with Loctite, so the baffle system should not be removed or disassembled by the customer. Disassembling the internal baffle system may affect warranty or return eligibility.

The production version also includes several practical updates. The center drain plug has been moved directly below the oil pickup, allowing the pickup tube and mesh screen to be inspected or cleaned through the drain plug opening during oil changes. This is especially useful after installation, where the first one or two oil changes are the most likely time to check for any RTV residue collected at the pickup screen.

Additional production features include a cast Formula Delta logo, a product identification plate, and serialized numbering for each pan. Each serialized pan is tracked to the customer who receives it. The pan is made in the USA.

For turbocharged or auxiliary oil return applications, the pan includes provisions for drain-back plumbing. One location is positioned to match the HKS turbo oil return location and can be drilled and tapped for an M18 thread on request. Another drain-back location is available in a convenient area for catch can returns or other oil return plumbing. Some earlier pre-production plumbing features were removed because the locations were less practical and added unnecessary manufacturing complexity.

Installation instructions are being finalized and will be sent out as fulfillment begins. One important installation note is that the oil pan must not be used as a jacking point. Although the casting is strong for its intended use, it is not designed to support the full weight of the vehicle.

The next step is to continue working through minor production refinements with our vendor before the remainder of the batch is completed. We are inspecting and assembling each pan before shipment, including hand assembly of the integrated baffles. Fulfillment will continue as castings arrive, pass inspection, and are completed for shipment.

As the project moves into production, pricing will also be adjusted from the early-order pricing structure. Customers who have already ordered will be fulfilled as quickly as possible as additional approved pans become available.
