Update #5 - GR86 / BRZ High-Capacity Oil Pan: Early Access Testing and Preorder Plan
Ping ZhangEarly access testing for the Formula Delta high-capacity oil pan for the FA24 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ is continuing with additional test vehicles now running pre-production pans. These testers are helping us collect real-world oil pressure data across different cars, tracks, tires, and use cases before the production version is finalized.
New early access testers include Jason Li from Drivers Paddock, who is running a pre-production pan on his 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, and Adam Mann from NUMMI Racing, who is campaigning a first-generation Scion FR-S with an FA24 swap in the Lucky Dog Endurance Racing series. Adam’s endurance racing use case is especially useful because the car sees extended track time, and the engine is torn down regularly, giving us an opportunity to review both data and engine condition after a season of use.
We are also working with Brian from 900BRZ, who has been one of the most active contributors to public oil pressure data on the GR86 / BRZ platform. His car is competing in the 86 Challenge in California, and we have already received data from Sonoma and Laguna Seca. The early results are positive from our standpoint, and additional data will continue to be collected through the season.
Several other pre-production pans are either installed, in transit, or being prepared for the rest of the early access group. As more data becomes available, it will be shared through our channels and through the testers’ own YouTube channels and social media. Some of this testing has already been published publicly, and it provides useful context for how the pan performs under different levels of grip and track conditions.
On the manufacturing side, we have narrowed our vendor selection and found a promising casting vendor in the United States that can meet our price, quality, and performance targets. Moving to this vendor also gives us an opportunity to make several design updates before production. These changes require new tooling, which is a significant upfront cost.
To move forward with production tooling, we need to confirm demand for at least 50 orders. The first 50 preorder customers will receive discounted pricing of $649 using the launch coupon code. After those first 50 orders are claimed, the remaining preorder price will be $749. Once the preorder window closes, the planned retail price will be $879.
The product page and storefront will include the latest product description, fitment information, and pricing details. We are also working through preorder setup and shipping logistics before announcing the official preorder start date.
