Update #3 - GR86 / BRZ High-Capacity Oil Pan: Specifications and Manufacturing Update
Ping ZhangThe design of our high-capacity oil pan for the FA24 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ has reached the manufacturing refinement stage. The overall shape, internal layout, and capacity targets are now established, with current work focused on improving casting consistency and preparing the next round of early access testing pans.
The pan will be produced from die-cast aluminum and includes an integrated internal baffle system. The design is intended to function as a complete oil control solution, so we do not recommend stacking another aftermarket baffle system on top of this oil pan.
The target capacity increase is approximately +1.2 to +1.4 L over the factory pan. This range leaves room for minor design-for-manufacturing adjustments as the casting process is finalized. Any remaining changes are expected to be limited to small cosmetic or manufacturing refinements rather than changes to the overall concept.
Two additional batches of pre-production castings have been received since the previous update. Part quality and consistency varied across those batches. The castings that met the required standard are being converted into early access testing pans, while the remaining units are being used to identify and correct manufacturing issues before broader production.
The current priority is quality control and process refinement. Rather than release the product before the casting process is stable, we are working with the manufacturer to improve consistency and ensure the production pan meets the required standards for fitment, durability, and finish.
All early access pans from the current batch have been assigned. These units are being prepared for installation and track use, including testing with vehicles in California. Additional tester recruitment is not open at this stage, although another round may be considered if more suitable pre-production units become available.
The next phase will focus on validating the current design in customer vehicles while manufacturing improvements continue in parallel. Data and fitment feedback from these installations will be used to support the final production release.
