Update #10 - GR86 / BRZ High-Capacity Oil Pan: Final Update and Application Notes

The first production batch of our high-capacity oil pan for the FA24 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ is now in customer hands. Based on early installations and field feedback, we are adding a few application notes covering installation, drain plug sealing, undertray hardware, and future fitment options.

Before installing the pan, review the installation instructions in full. Although the part is straightforward in concept, the installation has some specific details, required tools, consumables, and torque specifications that should be understood before starting. This applies whether the pan is being installed at home or by a shop.

The drain plugs use rubber sealing washers with a metal outer ring rather than conventional crush washers. This sealing style performs well, but the rubber may compress slightly after the first few heat cycles. After installation and a couple of full temperature cycles, recheck the drain plug torque and set it to the recommended 30 ft-lbs. The plug may turn slightly during this check; this is typically the washer settling and does not require exceeding the torque specification.

The oil pan includes cutouts for the oil pan access cover bolts. However, the OEM bolts are relatively long and can protrude enough to contact the pan if the undertray flexes upward. This is most relevant for cars that are lowered, run splitters, ride curbs, bottom out, or experience off-track contact. For added clearance, we recommend using the shorter bolt option listed in the installation instructions. This is an added precaution rather than a requirement for every vehicle.

Early customer testing has also included cars running the pan with Accusump systems. For the club track-day use case this pan was designed around, the high-capacity pan itself has performed well. For more aggressive builds, very high grip levels, or users who want an additional layer of oil pressure stability, an Accusump can still be used alongside the pan.

The first batch sold out, and we are currently coordinating the second production run. The initial order quantity was based closely on preorder demand; future batches are intended to hold inventory and shorten fulfillment timelines once stock arrives.

We are also evaluating additional applications and fitment variations. An FA20 version for the first-generation BRZ / FR-S / 86 platform is under consideration, depending on demand and whether the application is better served by casting or 3D printing. We are also developing 3D-printed FA24 pan variations for specific header fitments, including a version modified for the HKS equal-length catted header. This approach allows us to support lower-volume header combinations without requiring a full casting batch.
