Update #1 - GR86 / BRZ High-Capacity Oil Pan: Pre-Production Testing and Header Fitment Update
Ping ZhangProduction drawings for the Formula Delta high-capacity oil pan for the FA24 Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ have been released to the manufacturer. Tooling is now in progress, with the first pre-production samples expected once the initial mold and manufacturing setup are complete.
The pan is designed to fit the OEM exhaust header without trimming the factory heat shields. Aftermarket header compatibility must be verified individually because routing and manufacturing tolerances vary significantly between products. Our current policy is to confirm fitment only after reviewing a usable 3D scan or checking the part against the CAD model.
The MAPerformance header and MAPerformance race header have been scanned and do not fit the current oil pan design. We are continuing to collect scans for other common options, including JDL equal-length and unequal-length headers, HKS, PLM, P&L turbo, and ACE products. Customers or shops with access to these headers can help expand the compatibility list by providing accurate 3D scan data.
We are also preparing a pre-production testing program for more heavily modified track cars. Priority will be given to vehicles with higher-grip tires, upgraded suspension, additional aerodynamic load, or increased power beyond the configuration used during initial development. Suitable testers should already be logging oil pressure and be able to provide representative data from track use.
The initial test vehicle reached approximately 1.2 g of lateral acceleration. The next phase is intended to evaluate oil pressure stability beyond that level and determine how the pan performs under more aggressive cornering loads. Testing during the winter will favour vehicles in warmer regions where track access remains available.
The current target is to open an initial group buy after the first pre-production pans have been installed and their performance has been validated. Pricing has not been finalized, but the expected group-buy price is in the $700 USD range and will remain below $1,000 USD.
Final specifications, external geometry, and confirmed capacity will be released after fitment and oil pressure testing are complete. This allows the production design to be presented only after the final configuration has been validated for track use.
